"POWER MAGAZINE" awarded WCA the 1992 DESIGN EXCELLENCE AWARD for the Ocean States Power Project (Twin 250 MW Combined Cycle Zero Discharge Station in Rhode Island). WCA also participated in several other award winning projects such as in Cedar Bay (Jacksonville, FL) and Delano Energy (Delano, CA). WCA completed "State of the Art" potable supply and wastewater systems for Hilton (luxury hotel) in Istanbul, Turkey. Similar work is in design review for Poland and India Hotels. WCA completed a $1,000,000 design and supply project in 5 months on a critical path schedule for copper mining in Chile. Then, a second project of $2,500,000 was delivered in nine months to Chile. Due to the confidence and trust in WCA from it's clients, this is made possible. Projects are accelerated by Internet communications for design approval and commercial transactions. WCA pioneered the art of silica and colloids removal in severe duty applications. Due to it's experience with many projects, WCA is currently engaged by the world's leading fiber optics manufacturer (the details of which are confidential). The development work involves concentrating silica to several thousand mg/l along with rare minerals, followed by separation and recovery of valuable minerals, and reduction of SiO2 in the wastewater for disposal. All this is conducted under highly saline conditions. WCA repaired the explosion damage of a major food processing manufacturer, kept the plant in operation and the 300 people employed during the 6 months interim. WCA personnel operated the plant, imported technology from Belgium to improve manufacturing, and installed safeguards to avoid future incidents. During the client's stress of this period, WCA managed regulatory affairs and local community concerns. WCA assisted the client in obtaining full insurance reimbursement. WCA doubled the water and waste management capabilities of a Power Station in Delano, CA without requiring a new facility and without encountering a lengthy implementation schedule. This enabled adding a second power block without change in regulatory permits, avoiding the delay and costs. WCA managed the negotiations with the State of California, tested and certified the results, and provided assurance to the investment banker for final funding. At Delano, WCA provided the complete design, supply, and construction management. The Project was completed ahead of schedule and within budget. Performance exceeds design criteria. WCA monitors and services plants remotely (in Atlanta and in California) by telephone modem and Internet links with New Jersey. Startup support in Istanbul and Chile were supported by computer links to New Jersey. Using these means, performance data are reviewed, programming modifications are implemented, capabilities are expanded, maintenance needs are identified, and trouble-shooting is accomplished within minutes. Recently, a customer called with a problem that was threatening the plant with imminent shutdown. By computer linkage review, WCA staff isolated the problem to a transfer pump in need of repair. This was corrected and the problem was overcome within one hour. If there is telephone or Internet service available, these design and service capabilities can be made available anywhere in the world.
